Opening out to reveal notes of preserved plums, blackcurrant cordial and new leather with touches of pencil shavings and bay leaves. Full-bodied, the palate has a rock-solid structure of firm, chewy tannins and loads of freshness.

The 2016 Beaumont has quite a powerful bouquet with dense black fruit, boysenberry and cedar, traces of pencil lead developing with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, quite spicy compared to its peers, then it reins everything back in for what is a refined finish. Classy stuff, but I would afford this a couple of years in bottle.

Stunningly deep ruby/purple, with a beautiful nose of spring flowers intermixed with perfumed raspberry and blueberry notes, it exhibits a sort of cool-climate character. Broad, rich and intense on the palate, the wine has plenty of tannins, but they are sweet and well-integrated.

The nose is expressive onnotes of fruit and lots of spice; it reveals ripeness and is very fresh. On the palate, this wine is charming, with surprising fullness, smoothness, and a lot of depth.

The fruit is intense, but reined in. This is medium bodied and does not give as bold a statement as some of the other Margaux wines - it definitely has more elegance. It is easy to like this, with its understated class and abundant, sweet tannins. A classic example of Margaux from an outstanding vintage.

Serious stuff, this has a sexy feel to it with good weight, length and depth. A really solid core of jammy fruit. Classic and has exceptional grip for the vintage. Gruaud is back in the super-second league.

| | This is an attractive and generous example from St Emilion, with ripe blackcurrant and blue fruit characters and a plump texture throughout. There is plenty of depth on offer across the palate with mineral and graphite notes to accompany the fruit. Well integrated acidity provides a linear, silky mouthfeel and a cool, refined finish. This illustrates the depth and finesse that can be found on the Right Bank this year. |

The 2007 La Mission Haut Brion should be considered as one of the wines of the vintage. medium-bodied with very fine tannin, crisp acidity and a very precise structure, with superb tension on the finish. If you are seeking a 2007 Bordeaux, then this would undoubtedly be one of my picks.
